I am a born Praguer and hundred percent city type – I love nature, but cannot live there. I love Prague and although I lived abroad – in the Netherlands (1991-1992) and in London, UK (2005-2006) – and am able to live nearly anywhere, our Golden City is under my skin. I studied here under Communism a „school for secretaries“ (understand High School of Economy) and later, after the Velvet revolution in the mid 90's, I spent three years at the Anglo-American College (today University), again studying economics.
Since I was 13 I knew I wanted to be a writer and journalist. My first article was published in Mladý svět weekly magazine about my experiences as an au-pair (I was one of the first au-pairs, there were no agencies yet in CR). On my return I began to work on my journalistic career. For several years I assisted, researched and interpreted for foreign journalists from whom I was learning the trade and with their help I also published, mainly in English in Central European Business Weekly that was sold in Prague, Budapest and Warsaw.
In 1995 I started with The Prague Tribune, a Czech-English monthly, and I stayed there for 10 years. In the last few years I was the editor-in-chief. The magazine covered (it does not exist anymore) a wide spectrum of topics in business and lifestyle. It was basically the predecessor of special monthly supplements that are common these days, such as Proč ne?! or Esprit of Hospodářské or Lidové noviny.
I then spent a year in London where I launched and managed Fusion magazine, aimed at immigrants from Central and Eastern Europe. When I returned to the Czech Republic I wanted to try something new and thus took up the post of internal communications manager in GE Money Bank. In the meantime I also published in Lidové noviny, in their Saturday supplement Relax – apart from features on various social topics I had my own gastronomic column for a year.
In the spring of 2012 I decided to become a freelancer and to work on my own media projects. I have experience in the following areas:
My motto is that a good journalist must be able to write about anything.
